What motivates you?

I think I am a person who is spurred on
of challenges and obstacles along the way. Knowing that it's not a straight path to success is not a negative thing, but that's where you develop the most. Looking back at old videos and seeing how both me and the pony have improved is a fantastic feeling.

I have always been a rider with big dreams of competing in the big arenas, winning medals and big competitions, but something that has been stronger than the desire to compete has always been my love for my horses.

Tell us a little about your horses.

I have had several different horses and ponies during my journey to where I am now where everyone has had their time and been an important part of the big puzzle. My old B-pony Magic has taken me incredibly far in equestrianism as she showed me how to have fun and fight as a team on the track, something that I later took to my other ponies. Captain , my C-pony means an incredible amount to me as he is such a special individual. He has definitely taken me the furthest when it comes to the riding itself and taught me that it is worth putting all your waking hours, blood sweat and tears into the sport. Then we have Gorm , the incredible Gorm who is the kindest pony in the world at the same time as he has such incredible hope in him and the will to fight with his rider. He is 9 years old and just getting better and better.

Something I will carry with me my whole life is knowing that no matter how nervous or stressful it is, you can find your way back to the track. If you have a strong enough bond with your horse, then anything is possible. I think building a bond with your horse is one of the most important things you can do and is just as important for success as riding training. Brushing, cuddling, playing and spending a lot of time together. It's a magical feeling to have such communication that it feels like the horse can read your thoughts.

how it started

My mother's family has had horses for generations, so I was on horseback long before I could ride a bike. When I was three I was a fellow rider on a shetty twice a week. After competing in a few pay and jump events with our Irish horses, I got my first show pony when I was eight.

The biggest challenge has been working my way up on my own and riding many different horses. It might have been easier if I had a ready-made star horse, but at the same time it has taught me a lot and allowed me to ride without a lot of pressure. It has given me the confidence to develop and shape myself into the rider I am today.

What are you most proud of?

  • To represent Sweden on a pony as a 14-year-old with a self-trained pony.
  • To be one of two clear riders in the Swedish Championship final with the D-pony Gorm, who I rode and trained myself.
  • My successes at Falsterbo with my first big horse, where I won both qualifiers and came second in the final.
  • My debut in the 135 class on a big horse, where I advanced to the ATG series and won my heat among top names.

How did you begin your journey in equestrian sports?

I have always loved horses – from stuffed animals and stick horses to real horses. When I was six years old, I started at Gladö riding school, and later I got my first pony at eleven. I am a competitive person, so when I got the chance to compete with my fellow rider pony Teddy, I didn’t hesitate. He made me feel confident on the racetrack, and after the first competition I just wanted more. One of my biggest challenges is that I don’t come from a horse family. I have had to find my own path and sometimes I wish I had more horses to ride and more horse experts around me. But each challenge has also given me even more drive and love for the sport.

TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR HORSES

My D-pony Gaelic has been with me since last fall, and we are still getting to know each other. She is lively, happy and loves to jump. Before her, I had the B-pony Bob, my best friend for three years. He taught me everything and fulfilled several of my dreams, but since I am turning fourteen, I can no longer ride the B-pony. The bond with Bob was unbeatable – we knew each other inside and out, and I was always safe with him. I shouted when I arrived at the stable and was greeted by his bright neighing. With Gaelic, we are not there yet, but we are well on our way. I believe the bond between rider and horse is super important for the team to perform. If you don't have a strong bond with your horse, you can't trust each other in difficult or
unsafe situations and then it works worse. To strengthen the bond I usually spend a lot of time in the stables, training, riding, taking care of her, but also just being there, going for walks and teaching her tricks.

Ella Eriksson

Ella Eriksson is a dressage rider and grew up in the stable, with horses as a natural part of life. With a mother who is a riding instructor, she has had horses around her since childhood and today cannot imagine everyday life without them.

TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR HORSE

I have owned my horse Shakira since 2020 and she is probably the one who chose me actually. The path with her has not been completely straight, she is a nervous horse who when I bought her had not been ridden for a couple of years but with many years of work to gain trust between us she is now my absolute best friend who I trust in all situations. She is a fun horse with a lot of personality and wants to be everywhere I am. The best thing about her and with all horses is that you can really be 110% yourself around the horses, you never have to worry about what they will think or think about you and that they would never judge you

A PERFECT DAY?

A perfect day at the stable for me starts in the morning as I am a morning person, cuddling with the horse in the paddock, taking my time to do the stable chores and then going out for a long ride in the forest because the best thing my horse Shakira knows is galloping in the forest.

What I look forward to most about being part of the Lopes TikTok team is contributing joy, inspiration and energy to others, I hope you can see that through the screen!
